Hey there!
We're Trevor and Laura, the owners of Bushwhackers Forestry! We provide tree planting and pre-commercial thinning services to private woodlot owners and lumber mills in Nova Scotia. We work with clients who share our longstanding commitment to sustainable forest management practices, to help ensure a beneficial future for woodlots and forests in our province for all stakeholders.
We met in 2015 while tree planting in British Columbia. Trevor worked as a tree planter from 2006 - 2013 before moving into the position of foreman from 2014 - 2018 and managing a crew of 16 planters. Laura was hired on Trevor's crew as a rookie tree planter in 2015 and continued to plant on his crew until 2018.
In the winter of 2017, we planted trees in Scotland on working holiday visas for 6 months. We planted a variety of species there including coniferous and deciduous trees (mostly all bareroot) in nature reserves, farmers' fields and fence hedges.
We moved to Nova Scotia in the autumn of 2018 and have worked on tree planting contracts throughout the province ever since. We expanded our silviculture business to include pre-commercial thinning in the winter of 2019.
In 2024, we hired 6 full time planters and they helped us plant 1.7 million trees across Nova Scotia.
In 2025, we expanded to 10 full time planters and despite a heavily shortened fall season, still managed to plant 2.5 million trees in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Bushwhackers Forestry received the 2025 Kevin Corkum Memorial Award for our strong commitment to providing a safe work environment. Bushwhackers was also invited to present at the 2025 ‘Seedling 2 Success’ conference hosted by Canadian Woodlands Forum to discuss the operational challenges facing the High Production Forestry portion of the Triad Model.
In our free time, we enjoy travelling and visiting family and friends. You'll likely see Laura smiling and talking, and Trevor talking about stocks.
